    It’s force of habit …
It’s force of habit — 4 generations of my family does this!!!! We have grudge matches that are more than half a century old!!!! LOL!!! Everything is debated including the time of day. This topic was just too irresistable for me.

Thank you for your wise words, moonlightgarden12am. I wish I had your objectivity!

    indeed it is easy …
indeed it is easy to find yourself in a negative grudge match, trying just to keep up with somebody who probably has bigger issues going on within themselves….but it takes a strong person to try and reason with fact and positive intellect…and when you can clearly see that those things are not working…..you just have to shake your head and laugh….

    I’m not sure if I’m …
I’m not sure if I’m proving myself wrong, I just like instructional videos and use them, rather than flail around. I don’t want to become practiced in putzing around with paint, that’s guaranteed failure for me personally. seeing how and what others do, prevents working in a vacuum. I find that seeing different techniques and ideas unlocks my creative impulses. Instructional videos are not absolutes. And I enjoy playing. Hard work does not guarantee one becoming an artist.

  15. papermason says:

    Hi jizames, again I …
Hi jizames, again I see the logic in your statement and yes play with paints and other materials, absolutely! Come up with ideas on your own. But which ideas? I find that one of the most frightening times in art is facing a blank canvas (in my case a papier-mache bowl or drawing paper) and coming up with ideas. Vocabulary is built not just on our own but witnessing what others do, I believe it’s the same with painting. The masters were often apprentices in the studio of another master.

moonlightgarden12am, thank you so much for your kind words! I speak from personal experience and frustration, LOL!!!

    if only half the …
if only half the people on this planet could hold a conversation and debate as well as you….there would be alot more intellect and love going around…very well spoken…..or should i say typed…

I believe that knowledge opens the door for tallent to get out.
I teach students to be profes.
    This requires a process.
I do like Oreo cookies and get very creative with them.

    Nothings better …
Nothings better than overcoming an obstacle all by your onesies, but on occasion I enjoy to see how others work and what techniques they employ. I believe you could think of it as inspiration, however I agree that anyone that relies upon step by step instruction will never realize their own vision. That said one can always learn from others, and what is more beautiful than loving another’s work to such a degree that your own style is improved. Also the masters attended academies and whatnot.

  23. jizames says:

    first, the reply i …
first, the reply i got in my inbox was beautiful. i wish you had posted it in here. i agree things are allowed to be adapted, but doesnt one need to build their own vocabulary before the osmosis of other ideas occurs? then you have nothing that needs evolving. and the post in here seems to prove itself wrong. the reason not everyone can be an artist is because not everyone goes through all the bad canvases. it takes hard work, like anything. i guarantee the masters didnt have how to videos.

  24. papermason says:

If you get a canvas …
If you get a canvas, paints and try to make tree painting, you probably will, with much frustration and disatisfaction. If it were that easy, everyone who desired to paint would. I’m not saying it couldn’t happen; it usually doesn’t. How many canvasses would a person go through until they were satisfied with the results? Without some instruction probably very few before giving up. I’m also not saying that’s the way it should be, it just usually is. Instructional vids are great!

  25. papermason says:

    I see your point, …
I see your point, jizames, but words and grammar can be used in all sorts of ways, slang, vernacular, colliquialisms, curse words etc. There are different accents, voices. It can be set to music, or poetry. It evolves. It’s what you do with it, if I only do my own thing all the time then I personally end up in a creative vacuum. I like to know what others’ are doing and try it..Picasso and Hundertwasser copied and adopted others’ techniques. Artwise, there is nothing new under the sun.
