    It’s a common mistake made by Japanese, but she shouldn’t do that when she is referring to it as her hometown…

    oh man, this is nice! I was getting tired of all those ultra-beginner lessons here on YouTube, but this clip was just what I was looking for. It is more or less the level of Japanese I am at; I could understand almost everything, except for some specific words and that one expression: “koe to kokoro dake de hito”. Can someone confirm if I heard this correct? (it’s on 2:42)

    First off, presume the fansub is the wrong one. They often take a lot of liberty in literal translation. Second, study the root word in a Japanese context. The meaning is always distorted in English, so its best to get a feel for its use in general Japanese. Take 馬鹿 (baka) (fool) This word is somewhat insulting even if used playfully in English. But it can be used as a fierce insult or a totally benign almost endearing description in Japanese.
